Two phase audio … ?

Why use one power supply transformer, if we can use two instead ?

This may seem a bit .. bizarre, but what if we could introduce, by means of a specially selected high voltage MKT capacitor, a certain amount of phase shift on the primary side of one of the two transformers ?

{{ Mind you, this is risky business, as you may just fall into the fatal danger of creating a series resonant circuit.  The cap should probably be, for safety reasons, bypassed by two high power, high current, bidirectionally configured diodes, so as to circumvent this risk

In such a manner, we shall essentially have a phase shifted version of the secondary windings.

We could use these phase shifted secondaries, route them to two independent rectifier bridges, and re-connect their respective outputs, the plus with the plus, and the minus with the minus, so as to obtain a sort of parallel routed, 2 phase rectifier bridge.

If we are lucky, we may even be able to obtain a phase shift of close to 90 degrees, which would nicely even-out the DC wave as leaving the taps of the parallel rectifier bridges.

The end result would be that we have a much more even “unfiltered” DC source, even prior to connecting it to the capacitor bank of our filtering circuit.

Please also notice what would happen to the ripple: to it’s amplitude AND frequency.  The amplitude is much smaller, and the frequency is doubled. Now it should be something like 200 Hz. This means that any given capacitor filter bank may actually be much more effective (two-fold!) in terms of smoothing out the ripple.

The other possible outcome could be, that if we place one of the toroids on top of the other one, axially, but in an upside down position, we could actually get a bit of self cancelling of the stray magnetic fields that emanate from the pair.  Not a total cancelling, due to the phase shift, but one significant enough to mention it.

Just yet another crazy idea that I am putting on my “to be tested” list.
